the family man?

i had one of those weekends that make you pinch yourself to confirm you still exist. the kind of beautiful family weekend for which you have nostalgia before the episode even ends. there were a few moments during which i caught myself staring down at my own life, just wondering if it's even possible that God chose to bless me (of all people) this way. He somehow made me a family man, and every fiber of my being is teeming with gratitude.

growing up my favorite movie was The Family Man, starring Nicholas Cage. i'm still trying to figure out who hacked the Rotten Tomatoes algorithm to assign this movie an astounding 53%. in any event, for those of you unlucky enough to have lived a childhood void of this masterpiece, please enjoy the trailer below in lieu of a real childhood lol.

modeled after the familiar It's a Wonderful Life narrative arc, The Family Man has always had a special place in my heart. before i even really understood the depth of the message the film conveys, i always knew that i wanted a life like the "family man" version of Nicholas Cage. the minivan over the porsche, the cul de sac over the villa, the gap over the tom ford. this movie always hit me so deeply because in less than 90 minutes, it teaches a lesson that it takes so many a lifetime to learn. that is, EVERYTHING YOU NEED IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU.

enjoying my fleeting and blissful moments of disassociation this past weekend, i saw my life for all it is: a supreme blessing. i am living in grace, love, peace and light, and i have all i need. i am SO grateful. every day ain't easy. for real, some days hit like a ton of bricks. but i'm thankful i get to feel those days, too. i'm thankful i get to breathe it all in, to feel every blow just as much as i feel each embrace. i'm so happy that i get to FEEL.

i'm grateful to good 'ol Nick Cage for saving me a lifetime of fruitless searching. sometimes life's secret treasures are hidden in b-list movies. that's the learning here.

term of the day: gratitude. the fastest way to feel God's love.

song of the day: Make it Better by Anderson Paak ft. Smokey Robinson. c'mon now.

That is the truth. Everything you need is right in front of you. And my wife love that movie and watch it regularly to remind us.
